Kiandra ANZAC Weekend 2020

Kiandra is the site of an old gold mining settlement. In the Kosciuszko National Park, it's situated between Sydney and Melbourne and is very handy to Canberra.

The aim is to get as many of the team going to Kokoda together for a couple of days. An opportunity to meet before we travel. But also to shake down gear, compare notes and to refine our planning. And of course to encourage each other on this epic adventure.

If you ARE NOT PART OF THE KOKODA TEAM PLEASE COME ALONG ANYWAY. This is a club event and everyone is welcome.

The ANZAC weekend in 2020 is NOT a long weekend. So if you are planning on coming you will need to take the Monday off work. Another option is to be out only for Saturday and Sunday. Depending on how far you have to travel having Monday off takes the pressure off the weekend.

The walk is alpine with some snow gum coverage. There is not a lot of altitude gained or lost - most altitude gained is via car. The track follows a loop. There is generally plenty of water available from streams but we will check that closer to the date.

There are some images here on Facebook which will give you an idea of the sort of country we will be in. You may have to copy and paste since Google and FB don't want to talk to each other!

The jump off point is shown in the image below. Kiandra is a 'ghost town' with little to mark it. However the Courthouse on the crest of the hill is very obvious and if you cant see that you need a white cane. The carpark at the start of the track is just down the hill from the courthouse.
