Guide Companies
On our international treks we have been supported by third party companies who have provided local colour, knowledge, wisdom and advice. Sure, these trips can be sorted on your own. But it does help to have that local connection or we would miss out on so much that is going on around us. And they do help ensure you make those connections!
Kokoda, Papua New Guinea (2010)
We used Kokoda Spirit. Outstanding. John Titmus was our guide and we enjoyed his experience but especially the way he became one of our team.

Annapurna Circuit, Nepal (2012)
We were put in touch with the guys at the Sacred Valley Inn. They organise trekking trips. And they do it well. Feedback to Ailsa, Ganga and Bishnu after the trip included the following:On behalf of our group I wanted to say how much I appreciated all the help you gave us. The hospitality in Kathmandu and in Pokhara was exceptional and made all the difference to our trip. Perhaps the highlight was our guide (Lila) and our porters who made themselves so much part of our team and became wonderful friends. They did such a great job of looking after us.
Everything went smoothly - porters, bus connections, flights, accommodation. We could not ask for better. I am very happy to recommend you to anyone else travelling to Nepal.

Overland Track, Tasmania (2013)
This winter trek was supported by Paul Grigg at Outdoor Tasmania who dropped us at Lake St Clair and picked us up at the other end of the track. A great help to us, very personable and a fabulous representative of the local community.
Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (2014)
We used David at Alida Tours. He and his colleague Moses sorted out our arrival in Kenya, our transit to Tanzania, the climb, and our visit to the Amboseli game park afterwards. The coordination was first rate and David is a great organiser. All our airport and other connections went off without a hitch.

Salkantay Track (Machu Picchu), 2016
Tullio Sanchez at Ayllu Tours sorted our trip to Peru. He was exceptional and went out of his way to personalise the tour. In particular we received a very wide exposure to Peruvian culture, from a variety of very knowledgeable locals, which we would not have received had we attempted this on our own. Henry our guide became part of our family.
I would use him again in Peru.
